This week is Sukkot, a Jewish holiday centered on hospitality. Families build a sukkah, a temporary outdoor dwelling, and make a practice of welcoming guests inside it, a custom called ushpizin.
That spirit of welcome is something we hold close, too. Making everyone feel like they belong is something we build our communities around – new friendships formed over dinner, neighbors becoming friends, and doors that are always open to the next visitor.
